Removing helicoils is a very difficult task, but it can be done with a helicoil extraction tool. This should wedge the tool into the helicoil and it can then be removed by turning counter clockwise. Often times you will have to make a custom tool in order to get this option to work.
How do you remove a stripped helicoil?
Occasionally HeliCoil inserts must be removed. Inserts may be removed manually with a little effort. This is done by inserting the blade of the extracting tool into the HeliCoil insert so that the V section of the blade is toward the top end of the insert. Strike the head of the tool with a light blow.
How does a helicoil stay in?
HeliCoils do not require thread sealants or thread locker in order retain the insert, but if you feel the need to use sealant or thread locker, a light coating may be applied to the outer threads, making sure the inner threads are clean. Once installed, HeliCoil inserts are very reliable and trustworthy.

Pull on the screw with pliers. If the insert is conical, it should pop right out of the wall. If it doesn’t come out easily, it may have wings holding it to the back of the drywall. If so, you may be able to pull it out by increasing the force, but stop pulling if the drywall begins to crack.

If it was installed properly with Loctite, it may require some heat to break it loose. To install new, chase the threads with the proper tap, clean threads thoroughly and install new insert with Loctite. Let cure overnight before you use.
