What are Type 3 curls?
Type 3: Curly Hair. This category encompasses hair that curls into springs and corkscrew shapes. When hair is wet, curls usually look like waves but take on a three-dimensional swirl shape as they dry. Each strand of this hair type can be unique.
What is the rarest type of curls?
It doesn’t even hold a curl! 1A is the rarest hair type. It is usually found on people of Asian descent. 1B hair, on the other hand, is the most common hair type.
Is my hair 3C or 4a?
The essential quality that separates one from the other is the size of the curls. 3C hair strands have larger curls than 4A hair, which are a bit more tightly coiled. 3C hair has a reputation for being tightly densely packed, but otherwise soft to touch.
What is a 3C curl?
3C curls are tight corkscrews that range in circumference from a straw to a pencil, like you see her on Nathalie Emmanuel. Strands are densely packed together, giving way to lots of natural volume.
How do you define 2B curls?
2B Hair type is best described as wavy hair. This hair type is not quite curly and it’s not quite straight. If your hair is mostly flat and straight at the roots but gets wavier and more “S” shaped toward the bottom, then you have 2B hair!
What are 2C curls?
Type 2C can be described as a deep wave, or “a true definition of S-waves,” says celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis. Almost curly, your hair is manageable to style but prone to frizz—still with a smooth texture to each strand. That means it’s also more vulnerable to heat damage, especially when chemically treated.
What are spiral curls?
Spiral curls are curls that have a corkscrew-like shape. They are sometimes called ringlets. Some people have natural spiral curls, while others are able to achieve them through permanents or the use of styling tools and products.
What does 2c hair look like?
Like all type 2 hair, 2c hair is wavy, but that often feels like a technicality. Your S-bend hair is thick and the waves start at the roots. If you’ve ever been confused about whether your hair is wavy or curly, it’s likely you have the 2c hair type.
Is my hair 3C or 3B?
If your curls easily wrap around the sidewalk chalk, then you have type 3A hair. If the permanent marker is the best fit, then your hair type is 3B. If your spiral curls are the size of a pencil, you have type 3C hair.
What does 4c hair look like?
4c hair is the queen of thick, bold afros. From afar, 4c hair looks like a thick fro, but if you look closely, you’ll notice very tight, small springs or coils on each strand. Coils are pretty different from curls.
How do I identify my hair type?
Place a hair strand along the length of a thread. If it is just as thick or even thicker than the thread, you have coarse or thick hair. If it is more or less the same thickness as the thread, you have medium hair. If the hair strand is significantly thinner than the thread, you have thin or limp hair.
Is my hair 2A or 2B?
2a – the most subtle curly hair pattern/type, a slight wave or kink to the hair. 2b is loose and bendy S-shaped strands but still more of a wave than a curl. 2c are more defined S-shaped curls which start from the root. It’s also worth saying, type 2 wavy hair is not failed curls!
What type 1 hair looks like?
Straight hair (Type 1) lies flat, or straight on the scalp. As the hair’s natural oils are able to travel from the scalp to the ends, Type 1 hairs reflect the most sheen. There are three subcategories for straight hair: Type 1A hair is very straight and fine, with no hint of wave or curl.

Does 4c hair have curls?
